This Is Your Life

There used to be a show, before I was born, called This Is Your Life. I remember it having a central character and the host would talk about their life and people would present themselves that knew the central character. There would be lots of funny anecdotes and stories.
I imagined something similar happening this morning to me when I discovered this scene upstairs.

A fresh roll of toilet paper, a 4 year old going poop, it taking over 15 minutes...it should have donned on me earlier but I was feeding Isabel breakfast.

At first I was upset, for about 2 seconds. Then it was all I could do not to laugh outloud.
So now I am using paper from a pile on the bathroom counter. Will I leave Maxwell alone to go poop from now on? Probably. Will it happen again? Probably, I have a 4 year old. How else can he occupy his time while going poop?

This is my life...and I love it!

Gardening

Well, I had to show off a little, as we are already harvesting from our pea patch.

This bed has carrots, beans, lettuce, spinach, peas, onions...

...on this end are brussel sprouts, brocolli, celery and more onions.
The spinach leaves are huge! Absolutely delicious and the brocolli has been quite tasty also. We have already harvested all the kohlrabi. Clearly we need to plant more next year.

This bed is new to us so the soil isn't as enriched with compost. We did grow a cover crop over the winter, but I don't think the soil is quite ready. It will be better next year.

We have zuchini, cucumber, watermelon, peppers, eggplant, more lettuce and tomatoes and tomatillos.
The zuchini and lettuce have been delicious.

Those of you who know me well, know I don't care very much for annuals, but Terry suggested we plant up the sad empty box on the deck. It doesn't seem to grow anything well, not enough light. However, the annuals seem to be doing amazing! There are petunias, calibrachoa, lobelia, nemesia, salvia and my most favorite cut flower, gerber daisies.

So far we have had 3 blossoms. The stems aren't quite long enough to cut for a vase, but I do love looking at them. They last longer on the plant anyway.

My newest herb container. Two varieties of sage, oregano and can a person ever have enough chives?? NEVER!!

So far everything is growing really well. I hope the annual box gets fuller, but I am thrilled with the results already. Maybe annuals aren't a waste of money after all?!?

Hot Day, Water Play

It has been quite hot here recently and after our trek to the zoo this morning, we were ready to cool down. Terry got out the wading pool and filled it up. But as it was so late in the day the water was a little to cold for Isabel. Max loved it and It felt great to dunk in our parts to get a little cool down.

We also have a small water table activity center. It has been filled with water for a while so the temperature was a little better suited to Isabel.

She fit into the large side just perfectly.

 Cooled off and happy!

Then up to dinner of Uncle Evan's Lasagne and cherries. She gobbled it up!

I love how she eats with abandon. I could bathe her after every meal!

Trip To The Zoo

We decided to take a trek to the Woodland Park Zoo today. It was Isabel's 1st time and she did great. I let Maxwell set the pace for the day and we went where he wanted to go. It became very clear early on that we were not going to see any animals but walk the "trails" and follow the map. He lead us everywhere. If there was going to be animals to see, we took a different path.

The orangutans were the only "animals" we encountered.

Unusual for him, but we trekked for over 2 hours and he did great. We had a quick break for lunch and kept going. It was right around 2 that he started to crash. He rode with Isabel in the stroller back through the zoo to the car and both of them were out cold within 10 minutes of being in the car.

What a great day. Hope to do it again soon.
